Burt Young, born Gerald Tommaso DeLouise on April 30, 1940, in New York City, was a celebrated American actor best known for his role as Paulie Pennino in the Rocky series. His performance in the 1976 film Rocky earned him critical acclaim and showcased his talent for portraying complex characters.
Before his acting career, Young served in the U.S. Army and studied at the Actors Studio. He appeared in various films and TV shows, including The Twilight Zone and The Sopranos. An accomplished painter and author of the memoir My Life as a Dog, Young’s legacy in cinema remains significant, remembered for his authentic portrayals and impact on film.
Josephine Myrtle Corbin, known as “The Four-Legged Girl,” was a prominent figure of the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to her rare condition, dipygus. Born on May 12, 1868, in Tennessee, Myrtle had two sets of legs and an additional pelvis, a condition that affects about 1 in 50,000 to 100,000 births.
Her lower bodies each had fully developed organs, enabling her to menstruate and even give birth to four children, all of whom were born without her condition. Myrtle’s life offers a fascinating glimpse into medical history, as well as the resilience of individuals living with rare physical conditions in that era.
